Govee Elite vs. Pro: Which Permanent Outdoor Lights Fit Your Home?
Compare Govee Elite and Pro brightness, white lighting, cutting and splicing, and installation planning for DFW and Greater Houston homes.
Govee Elite and Govee Pro both offer permanent, color-changing roofline lighting. The biggest reasons to choose Pro are its wider range of dedicated white lighting and its manufacturer-supported cutting and splicing. Elite is a practical option when value and a straightforward layout matter most.
For homeowners comparing permanent outdoor lighting in Dallas–Fort Worth or Greater Houston, the right choice starts with your roofline and the way you want to use the lights throughout the year.
Is Govee Elite the same as Outdoor Lights 2?
Govee identifies the Costco Elite version as the same product as Permanent Outdoor Lights 2. Retailer bundles and model labels can vary, so send the exact model number or a photo of your packaging before buying extensions or installation hardware. This guide compares the Lights 2/Elite family with Pro H706A/B/C.
Brightness and white lighting
Elite is rated at 40 lumens per light. Pro is rated at 50 lumens per light, a 25% increase per light. That does not mean a complete Pro installation will make your house exactly 25% brighter: light spacing, mounting distance, wall color and the selected effect also affect the result.
Elite has dedicated white LEDs around 4000K. It can provide white lighting as well as holiday colors. Pro adds dedicated warm and cool white LEDs with an approximately 2700K–6500K range, giving more flexibility to match a cozy entrance or a cooler exterior lighting scheme.
Cutting, splicing and fitting the roofline
Elite/Lights 2 is not approved by Govee for cutting. Its fixed sections require careful planning at corners, gaps and the end of a run.
Pro supports cutting and splicing according to the exact model's manual, using compatible connectors. This can make it easier to plan separate roof sections, peaks and changes in height. It does not mean every wiring arrangement or custom extension is supported.
For example, a simple front eave may work well with Elite's section lengths. A house with several separated gables may benefit from Pro's flexibility. HandyNauts reviews the layout before recommending a kit or promising a finished design.
Length, extensions and compatibility
Govee's standard Lights 2 guidance lists expansion up to 150 feet; Pro guidance lists a total up to 200 feet. Treat those as model-specific planning limits. Retailer Elite bundles can differ, and the original kit, approved extensions and any required driver must be checked against its own instructions.
Do not assume that Elite and Pro lights, adapters, extensions, tracks or brackets can be mixed. Check compatibility before ordering accessories. A longer kit is useful only when its permitted layout fits the property.
Smart controls and outdoor ratings
Both offer multicolor effects, app control, voice integrations and Matter support. Available scenes and integrations depend on the exact product and current software.
Both have IP67-rated light strings. That rating does not apply automatically to every component. Controllers, connections and power adapters have separate requirements; the current Pro listing specifies an indoor-use adapter. We review the exact kit instructions and power placement before confirming installation.
Should you buy Elite or Pro?
Choose Elite when you want colorful holiday displays, a simpler roofline and a lower equipment budget. Its dedicated white LEDs also make it useful between holidays.
Choose Pro when warm-to-cool white adjustment is a priority or the roofline needs more flexible section planning. Pro usually costs more, but its layout options may be valuable on a more complicated home.
Our recommendation is based on the property, rather than the product name alone. Pro does not automatically mean lower installation labor, and Elite does not automatically mean a less attractive display.
Brackets vs. adhesive in Texas heat
For both Elite and Pro, HandyNauts recommends securing the lights with compatible brackets or screw-fastened mounting clips instead of relying on the included adhesive alone. In our installation experience, adhesive alone does not provide the lasting hold we want in Texas heat; it can loosen and allow lights to sag or detach.
Mechanical mounting provides additional support, especially through hot summers. The correct bracket or clip depends on the exact light model and mounting surface. We review the surface and fastening method before installation. Adhesive may assist placement, but we do not rely on it as the sole permanent mounting method.
Brackets, clips and mounting materials cost extra based on their actual type and quantity. Our written quote identifies the mounting approach and any additional charges.
What does HandyNauts installation cost?
Our normal Govee installation labor is $9–$11 per linear foot. For example, 100 linear feet is approximately $900–$1,100 in base installation labor. Lights are customer-supplied unless otherwise arranged, and brackets, clips and mounting materials are additional.
Steeper or unusually high rooflines, difficult access and special mounting requirements cost more. Providing or arranging access to power is also extra; the standard installation labor assumes a suitable existing power source is available. Any outlet installation, relocation, electrical modifications or other power-access work must be reviewed and quoted separately before approval.
Send your exact kit model, city, roofline photos, estimated footage, number of stories and photos showing available power. We review the layout, mounting needs and power access before confirming your written scope and final price.
